'Eat, Eat'
Christian Simmons
In our modern day consumerist society, a wealth of products barrage our senses on a daily basis. Through media and an overwhelming supply of product, figuratively and literally the everyday citizen is being overfed and overindulged by what has come to be the norm. A system has been devised through which the backbreaking work of others is exploited, and translated to low quality and cheap goods that are ingested feverishly by the majority. 'Eat, Eat' attempts to visualize this cycle and express that in the end, 'the majority' wouldn't have it any other way.
Christian Simmons is a video artist and documentary filmmaker constantly intrigued and propelled in his work by the notion of 'The Beautiful Monster', an idea surrounding concepts of the interconnectivity between beauty and ugliness. How each can be found in one another, and the interplay between the two. "Just beneath the surface of something that society has long held as beautiful, or ugly...may sit just the opposite, and I'm into stripping it down so the true face of the thing can be seen."
